FAQs Running

Common Questions Answered…

Do I have to be fit to participate?

Our classes are designed to cater for all fitness levels from complete beginners to intermediate runners looking for a new challenge.  You will be pushed to your hardest level and inspired to achieve your individual best.  Even if you are not currently exercising, you can participate.

Do I need to have previous running experience?

Not at all!  We have designed a gradual program that will slowly introduce you to running in a safe manner.  Contact us ASAP before the course start as we have pre-course preparation programs we can send you to get you fully prepared for day 1 of the course.  Our trainers are experienced at making everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

Is it highly competitive?

We pride ourselves on creating an environment in class that is welcoming for all fitness levels and experience.  Our groups have a friendly, warm atmosphere where everyone encourages each other to achieve their individual best.  If you’re looking for a highly competitive culture focused on times and race placings, we’re not the group for you.  We get results without the competition.

What sort of training will we do?

Every class is different.  We regularly work with training methods such as: intervals, hills, Tabata, Fartlek, and more.  The sessions are not just ‘going for a run’ as you could easily do that without our help.

What if I have a pre-existing injury?

When you enrol you’ll fill out a registration form which will ask you to detail any injuries or health issues.  Please provide as much detail as possible so we can adapt our program to suit you.  If necessary we’ll consult with your health professional to ensure a safe workout for you.

What do I wear and bring along?

Most of our participants wear shorts or tights with a t-shirt or singlet, and good quality, supportive sneakers.  (We’ll discuss in class the most comfortable clothing for running)  Bring along a towel and a bottle of water for your comfort and hydration.

Do I pay upfront or pay as I go?

All of our programs are pre-paid to maximise commitment and motivation.  You are much more likely to make a 100% effort to attend every class if you have already paid for them!  Pre-payment allows us to ensure our participation numbers are not exceeded, and that places are held only for participants who are seriously committed to attending.   The running program package includes a homework schedule, an 11 page Running Guide, weekly e-news running tips, and support at the Fun Run.

What if it rains? What if it is hot weather?

Fitness is about maintaining a regular commitment to exercise, so we don’t cancel due to weather.  We are out there rain, hail or shine!  Wear appropriate clothing – a waterproof jacket and cap can come in handy and make things more comfortable if it rains.  In hot weather our trainers will adjust the class, incorporating plenty of breaks and some strength and abdominal based work.  Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water.

In cases of extreme weather – extreme heat or lightning or hail – we reserve the right to cancel the class for your safety.  You will be informed with at least a couple of hours notice via sms and email.   On the rare occasion that we do cancel class you will be offered a makeup class at another location or class time outside of your normal enrolled classes.  Refunds will not be provided.

Do you run these courses ongoing throughout the year?

Our courses run throughout the year, working up towards the main Melbourne fun run events.
