FAQs Boot Camp

Common Questions Answered…

Do I have to be fit to participate?

Our classes are designed to cater for all fitness levels from complete beginners to advanced exercisers looking for a new challenge.  You will be pushed to your hardest level and inspired to achieve your individual best.  Even if you are not currently exercising, you can participate.

Is it like the army?  Will I be “punished” for being late to class, being too slow or finishing last?

Our boot camp is non-military in style.  You will not have to pretend you are in the army, engage in unsafe carrying of other participants, yell chants nor call our trainer ‘Sergeant’.  We leave the military drills to the armed forces!  You will not be punished, nor motivated via humiliation.  Our boot camps are team based, intensive workouts using encouragement and goals as motivation.

What sort of exercises will we do?

Individual and team exercises, cardiovascular fitness drills, circuits, relays, muscle toning /strengthening, functional training, core stability, agility drills and much more.  You can expect to use a range of equipment including:  medicine balls, resistance bands, skipping ropes, agility ladders, mini hurdles, kettlebells, dumbells, in addition to fantastic exercises using your own body weight only.  No two classes will be the same.

What if I have a pre-existing injury?

When you enrol you’ll fill out a registration form which will ask you to detail any injuries or health issues.  Please provide as much detail as possible so we can adapt our program to suit you.  If necessary we’ll consult with your health professional to ensure a safe workout for you.

How many people in a class?

We enrol a maximum of 20 participants in our classes to ensure you get the best possible workout.  Our larger classes have two trainers on hand.

What do I wear and bring along?

Most of our participants wear tracksuit pants or shorts with a t-shirt or singlet, and good quality, supportive sneakers.  Don’t be tempted to wear your best gear as you may get a little dirty!  Bring along a towel and a bottle of water for your comfort and hydration.

You’ll need to bring your own exercise mat to every class.  If you don’t already have your own you can purchase one from us when you register.

Do I pay upfront or pay as I go?

All of our programs are pre-paid to maximise commitment and motivation.  You are much more likely to make a 100% effort to attend every class if you have already paid for them!  Pre-payment allows us to ensure our participation numbers are not exceeded, and that places are held only for participants who are seriously committed to attending.

What if it rains during an outdoor course? What if it is hot weather?

Fitness is about maintaining a regular commitment to exercise, so we don’t cancel due to weather.  We are out there rain, hail or shine!  Wear appropriate clothing – a waterproof jacket and cap can come in handy and make things more comfortable if it rains.  In hot weather our trainers will adjust the class, incorporating less running around and more strength and abdominal based work.  Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water.

Healthy Balance Fitness is a little different to our competitors because we take our classes indoors during the cooler, darker months.  We believe that your safety is paramount and therefore avoid training in the dark wherever possible.

In cases of extreme weather – extreme heat or lightning or hail – we reserve the right to cancel the class for your safety.  You will be informed with at least a couple of hours notice via sms and email.   On the rare occasion that we do cancel class you will be offered a makeup class at another location or class time outside of your normal enrolled classes.  Refunds will not be provided.

Do you offer a reward if I refer a friend?

Yes!  Our best advertising is word of mouth, so we reward boot camp vouchers as a thank you.  For every person you refer who signs up for a course, you will receive $20 off your next course with us.  These vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash, but can be given to someone else if you choose not to join us for another course.

Do you run these courses ongoing throughout the year?

Our courses run in 7 week blocks all throughout the year.  (Sometimes a course might be 5 or 6 weeks to allow for a holiday break). There are usually no classes on public holidays and there is a break at Easter, Cup Week and Christmas/New Year.
