Classes you are currently instructing for HBF:

Boot camp Elwood,  Boot camp Fitzroy, Boot camp Caulfield, Corporate fitness classes.

Why did you choose to work in the fitness industry?

I grew up as an athlete and fitness has always been a passion of mine in life.  I enjoy educating people about the benefits of exercising and helping them to be aware of the proper techniques.  I love seeing the changes in people’s attitudes, the way they see themselves and helping them to create a better physical and mental wellbeing is an awesome rewarding feeling.

What do you love about instructing classes?

Training people in a group setting such as boot camps allow me to help and motivate people in a fun and dynamic environment where everyone’s energy can help challenge each other to strive further.  It also challenges me to be creative with different exercise drills to ensure that everyone achieves their fitness goals.

What do you feel are your best assets as a fitness trainer?

My ability to build rapport and have genuine interest in people.  I love learning new skills and enhancing my knowledge because I have a passion for fitness and helping people achieve their goals.  I also focus highly on technique, ensuring the right form is utilised when exercising.

What do you like to do in your own time (when you are not working)?

I make time to catch up with my friends…and with my sleep. I like to read books or listen to audio/podcasts on fitness and self-development.  I keep up with my own training, and when I get a chance on weekends, I like to sleep in and stay in bed or the couch, my favourite place to be when I’m not working.

What is the most challenging or rewarding fitness event / achievement you have tackled in keeping yourself fit?

Winning the National Championships’ in Division I college tennis in the U.S. during my first year of university in 1997.

I also competed in my first bodybuilding competition in 2007 and continued training to compete in 2008 … this was the most challenging event I have ever experienced physically, mentally and emotionally, but what a great learning experience.

What advice would you give to someone who thinks they are too unfit / too old / too busy to try a fitness class?

You are never too unfit or too old to exercise.  If you want to live a longer, healthier and happier life, you should never be too busy to join a fitness class.  Exercise reduces pain, increases strength, mobility and improves the way you move.  Invest your time in a fitness class no matter what your age or fitness level may be; it’ll be the best investment you can make for you and your family.
