Michael Brown

Classes you are currently instructing for HBF:

Special guest appearances as a fill in instructor.

Why did you choose to work in the fitness industry?

I have always loved exercise and feel good when I do it.  I feel it’s a great atmosphere to work in and think people who are willing to get out there in the mornings and after work are normally very positive and fun, which makes the work we do rewarding.

What do you love about instructing classes?

Meeting people and showing them that exercise can be rewarding and fun at the same time.

What do you feel are your best assets as a fitness trainer?

Being helpful and supportive and being able to adapt to different personalities to help them achieve their goals.

What do you like to do in your own time (when you are not working)?

Exercise (run and play football).

Being outdoors with mates doing fun things such as riding, snowboarding, surfing.  I’ll try anything.

What is the most challenging or rewarding fitness event / achievement you have tackled in keeping yourself fit?

Around the bay in a day 100km, as riding is not one of my strengths.

What advice would you give to someone who thinks they are too unfit / too old / too busy to try a fitness class?

That these are all great reasons to start doing exercise as improvement will come fast, not just with fitness but how you feel and how much energy you have to do other things.  The best things about fitness classes is that you’re in a group setting and having people expecting you to be there helps motivate yourself.
